Eash Racing Stables
Eash Racing Stables is a small family-owned horse farm dedicated to producing quality Standardbred pacers for harness racing. Owner-trainer-driver, Don Eash, got into harness racing in the late 1980's with trotting-bred ponies and from there became involved with Standardbreds after buying a farm in Goshen, Indiana and utilizing the track that came with it.
Eash Racing Stables is situated on 120 acres of land in Greenfield about halfway between the two Indiana horse racing tracks. It offers a half mile track for training and is set up to train 100 head. Don and his wife Rosie along with eight full-time employees keep the operation running.
90% of the horses trained at Eash Racing Stables are Indiana bred horses. Don's proudest accomplishment to date is the success of his Bay Gelding, Foxy Maneuver. In 2003 Foxy Maneuver became the first Indiana-sired horse to compete in the Dan Patch Invitational at Hoosier Park in Anderson, IN. He finished fourth that year in the Dan Patch, but later took a new lifetime mark of 1.49.4 at Balmoral Park in Illinois. Before retiring as a riding horse, Foxy Maneuver had 51 career wins and $878,000 in earnings, the most money made by an Indiana-sired horse. "There's great pride and a sense of accomplishment when you take on the challenge of breaking a young horse and turning him into a top racehorse", says Don.
During your visit to Eash Stables you will be able to tour the stables and see several of the horses that Don Eash trains and races including racehorse Foxy Maneuver and several Broodmares and babies.
While on your tour you will learn how much food and water a horse needs each day, see what is involved in grooming a horse and will have a chance to witness a farrier at work.
You will also be able to view the harness riding equipment and the colorful jockey silks and at different times throughout the day you may even see a horse or two being trained on the track.
Kids will enjoy carriage and pony rides.
